USG-Guided Biopsy
Radiology
Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy is an advanced minimally invasive procedure for obtaining tissue samples that provide histopathological diagnosis. Unlike FNAC which obtains individual cells, core biopsy retrieves a small cylinder of tissue that preserves the architectural pattern, enabling definitive tissue diagnosis including tumor typing, grading, and receptor status assessment. This procedure is performed for liver lesions, kidney masses, thyroid nodules requiring tissue diagnosis, breast masses (especially those classified as BIRADS 4 or 5), deep lymph nodes, and other organ-specific indications. Using a spring-loaded biopsy gun under real-time ultrasound guidance, the tissue sample is obtained with precision while avoiding adjacent vital structures. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with strict aseptic technique. Post-procedure monitoring includes observation for 1-2 hours and follow-up instructions. Tissue samples are processed for histopathological examination with reports available within 3-5 days. This procedure often provides the definitive diagnosis needed for treatment planning.
