Kidney Function Test (KFT)
Pathology

Complete renal function panel for comprehensive evaluation of kidney health and excretory function. The panel includes Blood Urea, Serum Creatinine, Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Uric Acid, and Serum Electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Bicarbonate). eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) is calculated from creatinine values using the CKD-EPI formula to stage kidney function. KFT is essential for diagnosing acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), monitoring patients with diabetes and hypertension (leading causes of kidney failure), evaluating dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, assessing patients on nephrotoxic medications, and pre-surgical kidney function clearance. Elevated creatinine and urea with decreased eGFR indicate impaired kidney function. Electrolyte imbalances can affect heart rhythm and muscle function. No special fasting is required — staying well hydrated before the test is recommended. Results are available on the same day with eGFR calculation and CKD staging when applicable.
